Yesterday, Maine voters took a stance to protect the traditional definition of marriage in their state. “Question 1” was a ballot measure to implement a “citizen’s veto” on the legislation that legalized gay marriage in May. The legislators passed it, the Governor signed it, and the people rose up yesterday and defied the lawmaker’s power grab. Beautiful.
When the poll results came in the campaign manager for the opposition, Jesse Connolly, refused to accept the will of the people lying down. He vowed to fight, and work, and regroup….and find out where every single one of the people who voted for Question 1 lived.
In a defiant speech to several hundred lingering supporters, No on 1 campaign manager Jesse Connolly pledged that his side “will not quit until we know where every single one of these votes lives.”
