A cheer went up from the Democratic side of the House when the bill gained 218 votes, a majority. Moments later, Democrats counted down the final seconds of the voting period in unison, and let loose an even louder roar when Pelosi grabbed the gavel and declared, “the bill is passed.’

March on Washington the day of the Senate vote. Let them hear the people roar.

tomarma_rhino_costumesCharlie Crist appears to have abysmal taste in friends. The Florida governor and Senate hopeful is hastily putting distance between himself and all the thieving jailbirds he used to accept money from before they came under federal indictment.

Scott Rothstein, who described himself as a “close friend and advisor to the governor” on his law firm biography, is the latest of three crooked Crist fundraisers to face federal charges. Rothstein’s office was raided by dozens of federal agents this week, who confiscated documents and computer files relating to a Ponzi scheme that could reach into the hundreds of millions. Mr. Rothstein raised $675,00 for Crist’s 2006 gubernatorial campaign and donated almost $80,000 during the first six weeks of Crist’s Senate campaign. While Crist insists the two aren’t close, they attended each other’s weddings last year and Crist appointed Rothstein to a state Judicial Nominating Commission. —Scott buddy, I never knew ye..

One of the other men causing Crist much internal angst and a lot of political favors is Alan Mendelsohn, a fundraiser who stole from four separate political action committees to buy a love nest for his mistress, an education for his kids, annnnnd a brand new luxury car to drop said kids off at school in before tooling over to the aforementioned love nest. Crist and Alan are so close he put Alan on his gubernatorial transition team in 2006, a coveted spot for aspiring political bootlick..heavyweights.

In February Jordanian businessman living in the Dominican Republic, Ala’a al-Ali, was arrested for making tens of thousands of dollars in illegal campaign contributions to an odd trio of politicians, Guliani, Hillary Clinton, and John McCain, during the presidential primaries. He also donated to one gubernatorial campaign, that of our boy Charlie. Senator McCain returned $50,000 in dirty money, while the other recipients observed a deep and profound silence on the matter.

A close associate of Ali’s is wealthy defense contractor Harry Sargeant, a bundler recently forced out as Florida Republican Party finance chairman. Sargeant, a college buddy of Crist’s, bundled hefty sums for the governor, much of it from foreign donors in California who had never heard of Crist, and also bundled more than half a million dollars for McCain’s campaign. The man is embroiled in scandal but does not yet face any criminal charges.

All of these associations paint an ugly picture of corruption, cronyism, and one big, fat RINO who desperately needs a good wuppin’ at the polls. Why are the RNC and the NRSC backing this man?!

Rubio, Rubio, wherefore art thou Rubio?

World Net Daily is reporting that Fort Hood gunman Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan attended a meeting with President Obama’s advisors wherein they discussed matters of Homeland Security. **relevant excerpt below

aaAccording to the Associated Press, Hasan had been trying to leave the military for years, and the FBI had been monitoring him for at least six months after he posted anti-American rants online. Former commanders are all giving the same story: he was really quiet, didn’t make friends, and needed close supervision to perform his duties because of undisclosed “difficulties.”

Hey Newsweek: thanks for proffering speculation that he snapped because of stress about the wars. Any day now, I am sure that another random soldier will shout Allah Akbar in a shooting spree because they’re just so burned out.

It warms the heart to know that President Obama’s staff does such a great job vetting everyone who gets close to him. After eight years of being told that the President shaped policy to appease his partisan base, it would be nice if someone in the mainstream media started asking the same about Obama.

**NEW YORK – Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the alleged shooter in yesterday’s massacre at Fort Hood, played a homeland security advisory role in President Barack Obama’s transition into the White House, according to a key university policy institute document.

The Homeland Security Policy Institute at George Washington University published a document May 19, entitled “Thinking Anew – Security Priorities for the Next Administration: Proceedings Report of the HSPI Presidential Transition Task Force, April 2008 – January 2009,” in which Hasan of the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine is listed on page 29 of the document as a Task Force Event Participant.

The Homeland Security Policy Institute is led by Frank J Cilluffo, who formerly served in the White House as special assistant to President Bush for homeland security, and by Daniel Kaniewski, who formerly served in the White House as special assistant to President Bush for homeland security and senior director for response policy.

“Muslims should stand up and fight the aggressor,” Hasan said about America before he and possibly other Muslim soldiers at Fort Hood shot 43 fellow soldiers, killing 12, who were returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

“He said Muslims had a right to attack” the U.S., said Col. Terry Lee, who worked with Hasan at the Texas post, where the devout Sunni Muslim refused deployment. “He said Muslims shouldn’t be fighting Muslims,” he added. “He was very clear on that.”

An Equal Opportunity Congressional Pastime

The Republicans like to say that they stand for limited government and fiscal responsibility. During the years when the Republicans had the majority in Congress and a guy with an ‘R’ after his name in the White House, the federal government expanded more quickly than ever before and the national debt increased by over 3 trillion dollars.

After the American public made their displeasure felt at the polls last year, some Republicans made an effort to look like conservatives.

This November 19th will mark one year since John Boehner and Eric Cantor created a select committee to tackle earmark reform. They invited Democrats to join and make it a bipartisan effort, but the Dems wisely decided to let the Republicans paint themselves into the hypocrite’s corner all alone.

The group vowed to crack down on pork and come up with a solid reform plan to be unveiled no later than February 16th, 2009. February 16th came and went with nary a peep, grunt, squeal or snort from the group. Snoring however, can clearly be heard throughout the hallowed halls of Congress, punctuated by derisive laughter when another Republican shows up with fresh slop on his/her snout.

The committee has not issued a single recommendation for earmark reform, hasn’t met since last winter, has no plans to meet as of this writing,  and is apparently incapable of finding conservative principles with a map, compass, trail of breadcrumbs and a head start.

Out of the ten Republicans on the earmarks reform committee, eight (yes, you did read that right) have requested earmarks in the past year.

Republicans across the board requested 2,510 earmarks totaling $1,884,456, 428…in the 2009 Federal Omnibus Bill alone. As long as party elites talk a good game on the stump and go hog-wild when they’re back in Washington, they’re going to keep dragging the Republican Party down. One man who kept the faith has an idea…

Flake said he’s frustrated that yet another appropriations season has passed without further reform from either side of the aisle. For the Arizona Republican, there’s now only one option — but it’s one that’s not likely to be taken.

“[Republicans would] do well to say we don’t want any earmarks in appropriations bills next year,” Flake said. “Then we could show reform. And [the Democrats would] have no choice but to notice and go along.”

That will never happen, I’m calling it right now.

RIP guys, long live the Conservative Party!

If they keep this up they may actually regain their reputation as a news agency.

An Associated Press review of the latest stimulus reports—which the White House promised would undergo extensive reviewsmagnifying-glass to ensure accuracy—found that more than two-thirds of 14,506 jobs credited to the recovery act under spending by just one federal office were overstated because they counted pay increases for existing workers as jobs saved.

Most of the inflated figures were like those cited in the 935 saved jobs reported by the Southwest Georgia Community Action in Moultrie, Ga. The agency, like hundreds of others collecting Head Start money, claimed all its existing employees’ jobs were saved because they received a pay raise with the stimulus cash.

Similar claims led to overstating by more than 9,300 the number of jobs saved with more than $323 million in stimulus money distributed by the Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families, the AP’s review found.

It gets better…

The raises themselves were appropriate since the stimulus law set aside money for Head Start salary increases, but converting that number into jobs saved proved difficult. The Obama administration told Head Start officials to consider a fraction of each employee as a job saved.

Many Head Start programs around the country went further, counting everyone who received a raise as a saved job.

At Southwest Georgia Community Action Council, director Myrtis Mulkey-Ndawula said she followed the guidelines the Obama administration provided. She said she multiplied the 508 employees by 1.84—the percentage pay raise they received—and came up with 935 jobs saved.

“I would say it’s confusing at best,” she said. “But we followed the instructions we were given.”

Ed DeSeve, who oversees the stimulus at the White House, said the Head Start numbers “represent a few percent of all jobs reported” and said the problems would probably be balanced out by other errors that underreported jobs. –None of them have, yet.

“We don’t expect any corrections to this data to meaningfully impact the total 640,000 direct jobs,” DeSeve said.

Of course not, why let those pesky facts get in the way of the agenda?

While the US economy sinks into a quagmire, our government hands out more and more of our tax money to people who aren’t even legal citizens. We give them free health care, a free education, and we let them sue the people who try to protect us from their depradations.

The defensive drumbeat from liberals and organizations like La Raza is that Latino illegals are hard-working, honest people who contribute to the American economy. albatross

Let’s shine a little light on that…

A relatively new federal program that allows illegal immigrants to use their American-born anchor babies to collect welfare for the entire family has expanded nationwide and nearly doubled in a western state that already spends hundreds of millions of dollars to provide undocumented residents with public services.

The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program (TANF) was created by the U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services a few years ago so that illegal aliens could get monthly welfare checks to help support the entire family. It is the only public assistance program where parents can apply in their children’s name as opposed to applying in their own. It also does not require parents to demonstrate that they are in the U.S. legally since most aren’t.

In Nevada alone, the TANF program’s caseload has grown 96% since the recession hit the state like an atomic bomb two years ago. A news report reveals that around 4,250 of the families receiving the benefit in Nevada have “mixed immigration status.” In other words, U.S. taxpayers are supporting thousands of illegal alien families because they have at least one anchor baby.

Nevada already blows a whopping $630 million a year to provide its rapidly growing illegal immigrant population with public services that should be reserved for legal U.S. residents. The Silver State spends $470 million annually to educate the children of illegal immigrants in public schools and an additional $45 million for limited English programs. $85 million goes to healthcare for illegal immigrants and $31 million to incarcerate them.

Illegal aliens are also largely responsible for Nevada’s home foreclosure crisis, reportedly the nation’s worst. Around 5 million fraudulent mortgages nationwide are in the hands of illegal aliens, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and it is no secret that a substantial chunk of them are in Nevada.

In recent Testimony of District Attorney John M. Morganelli before the House Subcommittee on immigration, Border, Security and Claims he stated:

“Unfortunately, the majority of illegal aliens who are here are engaged in criminal activity. Identity theft, use of fraudulent social security numbers and green cards, tax evasion, driving without licenses represent some of the crimes that are engaged in by the majority of illegal aliens on a daily basis merely to maintain and hide their illegal status. In addition, violent crime and drug distribution and possession is also prevalent among illegal aliens. Over 25% of today’s federal prison population are illegal aliens. In some areas of the country, 12% of felonies, 25% of burglaries and 34% of thefts are committed by illegal aliens.”

If that weren’t bad enough, our own border guards have become part of the problem..

An Associated Press investigation has found U.S. law officers who work the border are being charged with criminal corruption in numbers not seen before, as drug and immigrant smugglers use money and sometimes sex to buy protection, and internal investigators crack down.

Based on Freedom of Information Act requests, interviews with sentenced agents and a review of court records, the AP tallied corruption-related convictions against more than 80 enforcement officials at all levels — federal, state and local — since 2007, shortly after Mexican President Felipe Calderon declared war on the cartels that peddle up to $39 billion worth of drugs in the United States each year.

When are the American people going to stand up and throw the albatross over the side?

A bank that recieved more than $2 billion in bailout assistance last year is officially filing bankruptcy to absolve itself of more than $10 billion worth of debt. Government officials, who proffered the bailout funds a year ago on the insistence that the bank could not be allowed to fail, are now apparently okay with it failing and have conceded the American taxpayers will not recoup the lost money.

mugBloomberg reported on the plight of one CIT Group Inc. that filed in bankruptcy court last week. The firm owes money to approximately one bazillion creditors and attempted to pull off a debt exchange in bankruptcy court, but the creditors, led by Bank of America, are favoring the traditional process.

Here is why this story matters: first, it exposes the stupidity of the bailout, but more importantly, it’s one more dent in Bank of America’s pocket. The more of these smaller banks that continue to fold, the more BOA sees another debtor go “poof.”

BOA cannot afford to absorb many more of them. And if BOA goes bankrupt, get ready for the end of the world.

The Messenger has been working to expose the dishonest intentions of supposed Jewish lobbying firm J Street. The group claims to be pro-Israel, but is pushing hard for a Palestinian state and opposes nuclear sanctions against Iran. J Street also asserts that the Israeli military has committed crimes, and though they concede the Goldstone Report is slightly flawed, they stand behind the “substance” of Goldstone’s accusations.

duct_tapeTHAT’S what our current government thinks is a pro-Israel lobby. In fact, J Street has been invited to the White House for meetings with President Obama.

Last week J Street held their debut conference in DC. It was so controversial that the Israeli ambassador to America refused an invitation to attend. Several American politicians had been wishy washy, so there was no way to confirm who would attend until it actually happened.

The conference finally ended a few days ago. Is there a comprehensive list of who attended now?

Ummm no.

J Street’s website boasts that at least 150 members of Congress attended, but for some reason they don’t offer a list of who these people might be. Even journalists who attended are being incredibly tight-lipped about dropping actual names in their gushing accounts of the “very well attended” conference.

It’s almost as if they don’t want you to know.

Welcome to the most transparent government evah.

Attorney General Eric Holder has requested that a San Francisco lawsuit over warrantless wiretapping be thrown out. Now that the Democrats are in power, they have a newly developed concern for national security.

childWhile thinning the ranks of the American people is actually a goal of Democrats, they’d prefer to do it their way. A successful terrorist attack is just too embarrassing, and costly at election time.

This, among other things like keeping Gitmo open, staying in Iraq, increasing troops in Afghanistan, maintaining rendition, appointing over a dozen lobbyists to the administration, and bailing out fat cat bankers…has caused some liberals to wonder what happened to their Hope and Change.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Attorney General Eric Holder says a lawsuit in San Francisco over warrantless wiretapping threatens to expose ongoing intelligence work and must be thrown out. Holder said U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker, who is handling the case, was given a classified description of why the case must be dismissed so that the court can “conduct its own independent assessment of our claim.”

The lawsuit was filed by a group of individuals who claimed the government illegally monitored their communications. To proceed with the case, Holder said, would expose intelligence sources and methods. In making the argument, the Obama administration agreed with the Bush administration’s position on the case but insists it came to the decision differently. A civil liberties group criticized the move Friday as a retreat from promises President Barack Obama made as a candidate.

The Democrats sure are enjoying flexing all the new government muscle the Bush Administration grew for them. While the disillusioned progressives cry into their non-fat soy lattes, the people they voted into power are gobbling up vast swathes of private industry and growing government into a massive parasite that will only die when it’s host does. But the Left won’t go quietly into the night, oh no…

Kevin Bankston, a lawyer for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a civil liberties group in San Francisco that is pursuing a similar lawsuit against the government, called Holder’s decision “incredibly disappointing.”

“The Obama administration has essentially adopted the position of the Bush administration in these cases, even though candidate Obama was incredibly critical of both the warrantless wiretapping program and the Bush administration’s abuse of the state secrets privilege,” said Bankston.

They’re going to poke their heads out of the handbasket they voted us into and whine all the way to hell. Stock up on earplugs.

Do As I Say…

Not As I Do.

In the latest installment of liberal hubris, California  Attorney General Jerry Brown was caught stepping on it with track shoes by political writer Carla Marinucci.

Apparently the Attorney General is in the habit of covertly recording telephone conversations with reporters, which just so happens to be illegal in his state. California Penal Code Section 632 prohibits the recording of private telephone conversations without the consent of all parties, and the state requires notification of all parties prior to taping. —The Attorney General caught repeatedly breaking one of the laws he is supposed to uphold….what a field day for the media. Oh wait, he’s a Democrat. Never mind.

This may never have come to light had not Scott Gerber, spokesman for Brown’s office, found fault with a corruption story on AG Brown and very obligingly sent Ms. Marinucci a transcript of her conversation with Brown and two of his staff members to correct her.Give that man a raise!

Considering that Attorney General Brown is in the running for Governor of California, it will be interesting to see how much play the California papers give this story. Will they pull together in ‘professional’ outrage, or run cover for the Left as usual?
